With this being said, I see so many Christian post things on social media or quote other Christians that are simply not true! It is my opinion, when we do so we are loosing our influence that we have with the audience that we have been given! For instance, I saw a post on Facebook today that said "Disney's First Gay Teen Couple" speaking of the last episode of the Andi Mac. Let me preface what I am about to say by telling you that I stand on the Biblical principle of marriage that it should be only between one man and one woman! This has nothing to do with the gay marriage issue (that is another blog post on another day)! But it has to do with the truthfulness or really lack thereof of the post. Let me also say that Disney does not have a very good track record when it come to family values, but this is post is not as cut and dry as the post makes it seem. If one watched the show or searched it on the internet, then one would see that this is simply not true! The show did end leaving that door open with some open-ended dialogue but in no way did the show or Disney "endorse" a gay relationship with this show.
Another picture that is being circulated around, is of a Congress woman that is a professed Muslim and it shows her with an military style rife and it says that she has attended a terrorist training camp. The picture and wording are simply not true and the implication of her is also not true. The picture was actually taken when she about a year old and someone photo-shopped her into it. I again have seen it being shared by many "conservative" people to show that she is a Muslim terrorist or at least has those leanings. Again, this is simply a lie! And Look, I know I may be splitting hairs (I don't think I am), but hear me out! Many conservatives today have said, "I hate the Fake News!" As they may very well have the right to say that. But that is like "calling the kettle black" when something like what is stated above in these two instances is done and it is absolutely "Fake News"! As Believers and Followers of Jesus Christ, we must make our "Yes, yes, and our no, no!" We must stand for the truth no matter if it fit in to a worldly agenda! We must not fall into the trap of stooping to a lower level of scrutiny for ourselves than we do for others lest we become as irrelevant as they and loose what little influence we have left.
I know some will say, "I just did not know that what I was posting was not true!" Let me say that with the internet at the tip of your fingers today, you can now if something is a fact or not in about 30 seconds! That is, if you really want to know! It breaks my heart to see posts that defame another person with a lie or half-truth because it fits in the posters political or social agenda! As a believer, our first allegiance is to Christ and the second might be to our nation. And if we are going to remain true to Him then must do everything in our power to make sure that what we post for others to read and be influenced by is wholesome, true, and edifying! If not, then we must show self-control and step away! I also know that this doesn't get you "stinger" points with your buddies or friends but it will keep you in a right fellowship with the Lord!
Let me close with this, "Silence can never me misquoted." As Believers we must be careful that we don't loose or spiritual influence because of a political agenda! Our mission is to reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and if we loose that opportunity because of political or social agenda then we have lost our purpose! God help us to focus on the things that are eternal, not temporal!
