I remeber as a child my parents would dress my sister and I up in a costume and take us to several neighborhoods and allow us to go from home to home on Oct 31st. We would knock on the door and when someone answered the door we would scream, "Trick or Treat!" and the person would give each of us some candy, a piece of fruit, or a treat. My question is now that I am a follower of Jesus Christ and so are my chilred, should I allow my children to participate in Halloween. It is easy to say that this practice is harmless; just look at me I turned out "Normal". Others might say, "Well, we just do the candy thing and we do not celebrate the "evil and scary" side of Halloween. But my thoughts keep going to the passage of Scripture in I Thess. 5:22 that says, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." Might I be associated with the demonic, evil side of Halloween if I or my children are seen participating in Halloween. Could others see my participation in Halloween and in their mind think, "Well, the preacher and his family are doing it. It must be okay." If they or their children bacame caught up in some sort of demonic activity because of my actions I would hold some of the responsibility. Romans 13:14 says taht we are not to put a stumblingblock in front of our brother (or sister). By participating this very well could be what I would be doing. I think I will refrain and enjoy my family in an activity that Glorifies the Lord rather than in an activity that has a demonic undertone. Tell me what you think.

I can totally see your point, but think we also have to realize that what something once was, it doesn't have to remain. I encourage you as a religiou man and as a man that enjoys knowledge to research the hitory of Halloween. Reach about All Hallow's Eve, Parentalia, or the Roman feast of Pomona. None of these were inteded to glorify anything evil or negative. Halloween has evolved into a celebration of the season, come Autumn, so cometh Halloween. :) I respect your views on it, and can totally see your point of view, and perhaps you are right, that a fall fetival with wholesome costumes is a better option when you want your family to be an example. Is it fair that you must hold yourself to higher standards because of your calling? Maybe not... but when one chooses a path they must follow it to the best of their ability. Thanks for bringing up this topic, perhaps it will make some of us think. God bless. :)

I know as a big kid that kid only look at Halloween as a time to get lots of candy. Halloween was first a religious celebration only later did it become associated with witchcraft, so do we give in to the Johny come lately . I think we have done the best thing possible by having Fall Festival.
