I remeber as a child my parents would dress my sister and I up in a costume and take us to several neighborhoods and allow us to go from home to home on Oct 31st. We would knock on the door and when someone answered the door we would scream, "Trick or Treat!" and the person would give each of us some candy, a piece of fruit, or a treat. My question is now that I am a follower of Jesus Christ and so are my chilred, should I allow my children to participate in Halloween. It is easy to say that this practice is harmless; just look at me I turned out "Normal". Others might say, "Well, we just do the candy thing and we do not celebrate the "evil and scary" side of Halloween. But my thoughts keep going to the passage of Scripture in I Thess. 5:22 that says, "Abstain from all appearance of evil." Might I be associated with the demonic, evil side of Halloween if I or my children are seen participating in Halloween. Could others see my participation in Halloween and in their mind think, "Well, the preacher and his family are doing it. It must be okay." If they or their children bacame caught up in some sort of demonic activity because of my actions I would hold some of the responsibility. Romans 13:14 says taht we are not to put a stumblingblock in front of our brother (or sister). By participating this very well could be what I would be doing. I think I will refrain and enjoy my family in an activity that Glorifies the Lord rather than in an activity that has a demonic undertone. Tell me what you think.
